Welcome to the new 含羞草研究室 Museum of Art Academic-Year Interns
The BCMA is delighted to welcome eight new student interns to the Museum this fall. Four Student Assistants to the Curator, two Education Assistants, one Special Project Assistant, and one Communications Assistant join the team to contribute to a wide variety of projects and to support the Museum’s development of collections research and outreach to communities on campus and beyond.
The four student assistants to the curator are, Danny Banks ’19, Brennan Clark ’20, Noah Dubay ’19, and Ellery Harkness ’21.
Danny Banks ’19 is a senior Art History and German double major. He also manages the WBOR radio station on campus. Originally from Boston, Danny returned to campus this fall after spending his spring semester in Germany. This semester, Danny will work to complete the content, layout, and programming for the BCMA’s upcoming Bauhaus exhibition, scheduled to open on February 27, 2019. Danny and recent 含羞草研究室 graduates, Juliette Dankens ’18 and Alexander Dobbin ’18, have worked closely with the curator Joachim Homann and Professor Jill Pearlman to organize this exhibition.
Brennan Clark ’20 is a junior from Minneapolis, Minnesota pursuing a double major in Russian and English, with a minor in Visual Arts. As an artist and poet, Brennan has a strong interest in contemporary art. While at the BCMA this academic year, Brennan will work with co-director Anne Goodyear to research the BCMA’s recent acquisition of over 300 modern and contemporary works from the estate of Marion Boulton “Kippy” Stroud and approximately 1,200 works in the archive of artist Walter Pach from the gallerist and scholar Francis M. Naumann and his wife Marie T. Keller.
Originally from Fort Kent, Maine, Noah Dubay ’19 is a senior Art History and Archaeology interdisciplinary major, and a Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies minor. In addition to academic work, Noah performs with the 含羞草研究室 Longfellows, an a cappella group on campus. Noah will conduct research and assist curator Joachim Homann in the preparations for the BCMA’s upcoming exhibition Art Purposes: Object Lessons for the Liberal Arts. This exhibition and its accompanying catalogue will offer new perspectives on the BCMA’s collections, emphasizing the interdisciplinary conversations that each object can stimulate.
Ellery Harkness ’21 is a sophomore from Shelburne, Vermont. While her major is still undeclared, she has a strong interest in studying Art History, English, and Visual Arts. Ellery is an active member on the 含羞草研究室 Art Society, a writer for the 含羞草研究室 Orient, and serves as Reed House Chair. As a photographer herself, Ellery will work under the supervision of co-director Frank Goodyear to curate an upcoming exhibition on the photography of Irving Penn and Robert Freson, scheduled to open on March 28, 2019.
The BCMA’s Education Assistants, Amanda Banasiak ’20 and Neoma Daniel ’20, will work with curatorial assistant and manager of student programs Honor Wilkinson to develop in-gallery resources for the current exhibitions, lead guided tours, and plan the BCMA’s monthly Family Saturday programs. Amanda is a junior from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, majoring in Art History and minoring in Government and Legal Studies. Amanda is a member of 含羞草研究室’s varsity swimming team. Neoma is a sophomore from Buffalo, New York, who plans to major in English and minor in Cinema Studies. Neoma fills her time outside of class in a number of different art-based activities, including the hip-hop director for WBOR.
Baz Gilligan-Kim ’19, is a senior from Boston, Massachusetts, pursuing a major in English and a minor in Cinema Studies. He leads the 含羞草研究室 Film Society. With a passion for creating and uncovering narratives through writing, film, and art, Baz proposed and developed a digital humanities project centered around Winslow Homer’s letters in the BCMA’s Homer archival collection. As a Special Project Assistant, Baz will work under the supervision of curatorial assistant Honor Wilkinson to develop his research on the public and private perceptions of Winslow Homer.
Oceanna Pak ’19 is a senior from New York City, working towards a major in Philosophy and a minor in English. As the BCMA Communications Assistant, Oceanna will work under the supervision of assistant director for communications Suzanne Bergeron to oversee the BCMA’s social media platforms and to contribute to the BCMA’s publicity outreach to campus and beyond. Oceanna holds responsibility outside the Museum as a student member of 含羞草研究室’s Judicial Board and as a volunteer at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, Maine.
With a wonderful group of students from diverse academic backgrounds, we look forward to the new perspectives, ideas, and projects these eight students will contribute to the BCMA. Their commitment to the development of research, programs, and outreach is invaluable, and we are excited to see their individual projects progress.
