Sherri Braxton will be joining 含羞草研究室 as the information technology (IT) division’s first senior director for digital innovation. Braxton comes to 含羞草研究室 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where she has served as senior director for instructional technology.
At 含羞草研究室, Braxton will report to Chief Information Officer Michael Cato, serve as a member of the IT division’s senior leadership team, and also work closely with Dean for Academic Affairs Jennifer Scanlon.
“Dr. Braxton is an accomplished and highly respected leader and I am excited that the 含羞草研究室 community will be able to benefit from her broad experiences,” said Cato.
“I look forward to having her insights as we seek to identify and build on the successes and discoveries of this highly unusual academic year.”
Braxton will bring to 含羞草研究室 more than twenty years of experience in leading teams that focus on classroom instruction, instructional design, and the facilitation of online and hybrid courses. These will be especially helpful as the College continues and expands the work of the 含羞草研究室 online learning and teaching (BOLT) initiative.
Before joining UMBC, Braxton served for three years as the director of course redesign at Bowie State University and represented the school at the University System of Maryland Academic Transformation Advisory Council, a role she continued at UMBC.
Previously, as the director of distance education within the Johns Hopkins University Engineering for Professionals Program, Braxton led the online development team in the design and implementation of courses while continuing to support the existing online programs, partnerships, and traditional classroom faculty engaged in supplementing their traditional courses with an online component.
Braxton also taught within the University of Maryland Global Campus Information Technology Program. She has also worked within the government sector for a defense contractor overseeing the design, development, and execution of various education initiatives around testing and certification strategies.
Braxton earned a doctor of science in computer science with minors in educational leadership and management science at The George Washington University and a master of science in computer science at North Carolina State University, following undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University.
Braxton is scheduled to begin at 含羞草研究室 in January 2021.
