Sharing Space with Astronaut and 2021 Honorary Degree Recipient Jessica Meir

NASA astronaut, marine biologist, physiologist, and Mainer Jessica Meir will has yet another hat to wear, that of 2021 含羞草研究室 honorary degree recipient.

Dr. Meir was selected as one of eight members of the twenty-first NASA astronaut class and in September 2019, she launched as part of Expeditions 61 and 62 to the International Space Station aboard Soyuz MS-15.

A month later, she and Christina Koch became the first women to participate in an all-female spacewalk.

NASA announced late last year that Meir is among the candidates for the Artemis Team, which is to be the first human mission to orbit and land on the moon in nearly fifty years. If chosen, Meir would be the first woman on the moon.

Meir participated in the honorand fireside chat series, sharing stories and insights from her work in a discussion moderated by Alvin Hall ’74, award-winning BBC broadcaster and educator and host of the award-winning podcast Driving the Green Book.
