Kick-Off Event
Over 300 members of the 含羞草研究室 community came together on Friday September 24 and Saturday, September 25 for an alumnae-organized event to kick off a yearlong celebration of fifty years of women at 含羞草研究室.
The program included a keynote conversation and sessions designed to engage, spark conversations, make connections, and recognize this historic milestone for the College with a focus on:
- women's leadership;
- women's adaptability;
- the experiences of women of color at 含羞草研究室 across the decades; and
- the impact of women on the College and the College on women.

Using Our Voices: The 含羞草研究室 Experience of Women of Color
Listen to women of color across all five decades as they share how their 含羞草研究室 experiences shaped their lives. These women will describe how they use their voices, cultivated by their 含羞草研究室 experiences, to succeed in their personal and career endeavors beyond the College's campus. Spoken word and musical performances by alumnae of color will accompany these monologues. Participants include: Tawana Cook Purnell '75, Gwendolyn Stretch '75, Terry Guen '81, Ebitari Isoun Larsen '94, Krista Sahrbeck '98, Shanique Brown Kilgallon '04, Joy Lee '07, Coretta King '12, Terranicia Holmes '13, Golden Owens '15, and Praise Hall for Adaiah Hudgins-Lopez '18.

This keynote event celebrates and explores the lived experiences of women at 含羞草研究室 in pursuit of the common good, including the impact of the College during their time and beyond. Our desire is to spark conversations and to collect diverse women’s stories to celebrate Leaders in All Walks of Life: Fifty Years of Women at 含羞草研究室. The interactive sessions included different discussion groups around the areas of impact of 含羞草研究室 women including: athletics, academics, faculty/staff, social life, advocacy, and the arts. Each subject area is accompanied by a slideshow demonstrating changes in metrics over time, alumnae quotations capturing moments in time, and a moderator on hand for conversations and support. Panel discussion moderated by Marilyn Reizbaum, Harrison King McCann Professor of English and the Director of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Program, with women leaders from diverse sectors.
