Funding for Student Research
Exploring different types of funding, learning how to convey the aims and significance of a project to an audience, and justifying budget expenses are skills developed in the proposal writing process that contribute to a student’s general education.
Institutional Awards
The College offers several fellowships, grants and awards to students interested in furthering their education through intensive research.
Anthropology majors and minors have received funding through the Student Fellowships Office the McKeen Center for the Common Good, and Career Exploration and Development.
Riley Research Awards
Riley Research Awards support student independent research projects or student participation in field schools or enrichment activities that directly support their major or minor in Anthropology. Awards include a stipend of $600 per week for 4 - 8 weeks in the summer (June-August). The Riley Research award was established by a gift from Matilda and John Riley to promote students’ engagement in independent research in anthropology. For summer 2025 awards, applications are due by noon on April 4th, 2025.

Anthropology Enrichment Grants
Enrichment Grants support student independent research and participation in a variety of curricular and cocurricular activities. Anthropology majors and minors, and students currently enrolled in Anthropology courses, may apply for grants of up to $500. Funding may be used during the academic year or during the summer to cover expenses such as travel, accommodations, attendance at conferences, research expenses, and participation in educational programs. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis from September 15 to April 30 each year.
