Robert A. Bartlett, a famous Newfoundland ship captain and master ice navigator, spent his career plying ice-laden waters around the North Atlantic and Alaska. He knew how to work with ice, pushing it aside, crashing or dynamiting a path through it, and using it to protect his vessels from icebergs. He transported explorers, scientists, cinematographers, and adventures north, and during World War II his vessel, Effie Morrissey, was part of the US fleet working in the North Atlantic. This exhibit will feature photographs taken on many of his voyages.
