Sit Down! will celebrate the Museum's distinguished collection of American and European furniture, focusing on chairs dating from the fifteenth to the twenty-first centuries. Ranging in date from a medieval armchair produced around 1500 to the Nurse Hat Chair designed by Richard Prince in 2008, this exhibition will examine the evolution of style, the nature of technological innovation, and the social meaning of seating furniture. Exemplary loans from Historic New England, Maine Historical Society, Victoria Mansion and several other collections will complement º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ's significant holdings.
