Painters of the Renaissance alluded to and competed with other media of expression, such as poetry, theater, music, architecture, and sculpture, sometimes implicitly claiming their own art form’s superiority. This installation, drawn from º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ’s collection, brings together paintings dating to the period 1350–1500 and prior influences, including ancient and medieval sculpture. Rivalries between the arts contributed to the transformation of painting into an arena for artistic innovation and originality.
