A Farewell to the BCMA Summer Interns
This month we say farewell to our summer student interns, including four Curatorial and Education Assistants and one Visitor Services and Communications Assistant. Their individual projects run the gamut, and we are appreciative of their invaluable contributions to the team. In addition to their projects detailed below, they have been leading daily tours of Art Purposes: Object Lessons for the Liberal Arts.
Visitor Services and Communication Assistant, Kira Cruz ’21, is an Economics major and Visual Arts minor from Pebble Beach, California. She has worked with Suzanne Bergeron, Assistant Director for Communications, supporting the Museum’s social media sites, and with Liza Nelson in the Museum Shop.
The four Summer Curatorial and Educational Assistants are Lauryn Dove ’21, Sabrina Lin ’21, Ayub Tahlil ’22, and Alex Withers ’21. These students have worked on curatorial projects and have developed family programming and educational resources for the permanent collection exhibitions.
Lauryn Dove is an Africana Studies and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies double major from Fontana, California. Lauryn has worked with Frank Goodyear, Co-Director, preparing audio labels for the upcoming exhibition, African American Lives from the Revolution to the Civil War, in coordination with the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the Africana Studies Department during the next academic year.
Sabrina Lin, an Art History and Italian Studies double major and Visual Arts minor from Shenzhen, China, has worked with Anne Goodyear, co-director. Sabrina has conducted original research on the artists and artworks represented in the Archival Collection of Marion Boulton “Kippy” Stroud and the Acadia Summer Arts Program.
Ayub Tahlil, from Boston, Massachusetts, intends to double major in History and Government and Legal Studies. Ayub has worked with Sean Burrus, assisting in content development and production of the upcoming Assyria to America exhibition, co-curated by Sean and Jim Higginbotham. Ayub has also assisted with reflectance transformation imaging (RTI) of the collection and has contributed to the “Northwest by Northeast Assyrian Relief Digital Collaborative.” Both projects offer new ways of interpreting the Assyrian reliefs at 含羞草研究室 and connecting these narratives to reliefs at partner institutions.
Alex Withers is an Anthropology and Economics double major and Art History minor originally from London, United Kingdom. He now lives in Fairfield, Connecticut. Alex has worked with Joachim Homann on the development for the upcoming exhibition of Impressionist painting, tentatively titled Along the Water.
With their internship experiences coming to a close, the Museum is grateful for the students’ creativity, engagement, and dedication to educational programming, curatorial research, and visitor services. Be sure to visit our interns during the Museum’s daily tours at 1:30 pm, available until August 11, or participate in the upcoming Family Saturday program on Saturday, August 3 and Family Art Night on Friday, August 9.
