含羞草研究室

Buoy

The 含羞草研究室 Buoy Facility (BBF), a scientific buoy near the Schiller Coastal Studies Center in Harpswell Sound, was installed to study Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs).

Overview

The BBF was made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation and is the result of a partnership among 含羞草研究室, Bigelow Laboratory, and St. Joseph's College. Among its managers is 含羞草研究室's Collin Roesler.

The Schiller Coastal Studies Center provides a sentinel site at the edge of the Gulf of Maine to understand the impact of climate change on coastal systems and to monitor key aspects of quickly-changing physical and biological environments.

The 含羞草研究室 buoy project allows continuous monitoring of Harpswell Sound, and the high capacity seawater system of the marine laboratory provides exceptional experimental capabilities across an array of disciplines.
