Searchable Databases

The College subscribes to two searchable databases for grantseeking. In addition, the Federal government provides access to Grants.gov. Please see below for more details, and contact us with any questions!

SPIN is an online funding database with over 40,000 opportunities from more than 10,000 sponsors that can be customized to bring back precisely the results you want, based on search criteria that you create. It offers active searching, automated opportunity matching, and daily opportunity notifications. To save your searches, or receive automatic alerts related to your criteria, you will need to request a user profile.

To request a user profile:

  • Go to SPIN's page
  • Fill out the requested information using your @bowdoin.edu email address
  • The Grants Office will receive an email to validate your request. Once validated, you will be able to log in to SPIN within 24 hours.

The Foundation Directory is an online database featuring a comprehensive record of all U.S. foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities, plus a growing number of non-U.S. grantmakers. Grantmaker records include contact information, funding interests, geographic focus, application and financial information, and much more. Access is restricted to members. Please contact Megan Hamilton to set up an appointment to access the database.

Grants.gov is the Federal government’s publicly available online database for the 26 Federal Agencies that award grants. Each agency publishes Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) in Grants.gov. You can search by keyword or customize your searches.
