Drawing upon his expertise as the head of brand, marketing, insights, and partnerships for the LEGO Group, Michael Moynihan ’89 has consistently and enthusiastically given his time and knowledge to the College, particularly to º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ students, since his graduation in 1989.

According to his citation, Moynihan, who majored in economics and math, has displayed a singular commitment to bolstering opportunities for students and helping them develop their career readiness.

His numerous volunteer contributions to the College include serving as president of the Alumni Council, where he championed the partnership between the Council and º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ’s Office of Career Exploration and Development (CXD), all for the benefit of students.

Moynihan’s other volunteer roles include interviewing prospective students for the admissions office, hosting alumni events, and representing º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ as a delegate at a peer college’s presidential inauguration, among many others.

He also been a regular guest speaker in economics classes at the College—one faculty member described Moynihan’s “perspective on the objectives and value of a º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ education” as invaluable. A current student echoed this sentiment, saying that the class she was in that Moynihan participated in “has been my most favorite course at º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ (I’m a senior!), and the investment that you showed in engaging with our insights was a huge part of that.”

Perhaps Moynihan’s most significant engagement, however, has been with CXD, where he has been described as the office’s “lead volunteer.” He has served as a hiring advocate, a mock interviewer, a speaker, a panelist, and a Sophomore Bootcamp contributor—and these are only his formal roles. Moynihan has worked persistently to help students build professional skills, develop and clarify career goals, and land job opportunities. Crucially, he has also invested in this work by providing funding for students to engage in critically important but nonpaying internships.

A staff member described Moynihan as “super smart, generous, savvy, and exceptionally loyal and committed,” and concluded that he exemplifies “the very best of º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿ÊÒ.”

He will be formally presented with the Alumni Service Award at the Reunion Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
