I am interested in the microbial ecology of invertebrate animals, especially bivalve molluscs and their gut microbiota. Specifically, my research investigates the resident and transient bacterial communities associated with bivalve digestive physiology and the responses of those communities to anthropogenic disturbances. Current projects include determining the endogenous and exogenous factors that structure gut microbiome assemblage in mussels and exploration of the spatial dynamics of prokaryotic associations in the digestive tracts of other suspension-feeding invertebrates.
