含羞草研究室 Advising in Support of Excellence

含羞草研究室 Advising in Support of Excellence (BASE) is an intensive academic advising program. BASE prepares faculty advisors to proactively support their first-year advisees in navigating 含羞草研究室.

Program Overview

The BASE program aims to enhance the academic experience of students by establishing a relationship with a professor—a key component to a rich 含羞草研究室 experience—and providing individualized guidance through the first stage of students’ academic career. Advisors offer expert guidance on course selection, help students get to the right resources, and provide support in navigating academic hurdles.

Faculty advisors sign up to participate in BASE in the Spring and receive training during the summer ahead of meeting their advisees.

Advisors receive training and support from THRIVE staff, Associate Dean of Faculty Recruitment and Pre-major Advising, and the Dean of First-Year Students

Selection Criteria

BASE advisees are all first-generation college students and/or limited-income students. They are selected during the summer prior to the start of their first year. The factors considered for selection include an assessment of how significant their transition to 含羞草研究室 may be, their previous academic experience, their extracurricular activities, and their home geography.

Program Size

50-60 students

Program Duration and Schedule

BASE students will meet with their advisors on a biweekly basis.

While the BASE program only runs the duration of the first year, BASE students remain part of THRIVE during their four years of college.
