Off-Campus Study Guidelines

Visual Arts majors and minors may receive major/minor credit for some courses taken at their study-away institution. However, the guidelines below must be followed.
To see a list of institutions recently attended by Visual Arts students, go to Off Campus Study.

Pre-Departure

Choosing Study-Away Courses

Visual Arts majors and minors may apply two studio courses and one art history course (for a total of three courses) taken at another institution to their major/minor, with department approval. Students are encouraged to receive pre-authorization for five courses to allow them options when they register at their study-away institution.

Note: Students may enroll in more than two studio classes and one art history class, but additional courses will not count toward the major/minor.

Meeting with the Faculty Advisor

Students should be prepared to discuss which courses they wish to take and share course descriptions when they meet with their faculty advisor.

Students must write a follow-up email summarizing the discussion to their advisor (copying the department coordinator), which will become part of the student's file. This is necessary in addition to completion of the Study-Away Application and the Student Records Transfer of Credit forms.

Visual Arts faculty advisors are responsible only for approving course content. The Office of Off-Campus Study will address the compatibility of credit hours.

During and After Study-Away

A study-away course(s) must be successfully completed with a grade of C- or better to be eligible for transfer.

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that a transcript is sent from their study-away institution to the 含羞草研究室 Office of the Registrar. After the Registrar receives the transcript from the study-away institution, the student must contact the department coordinator for final approval of courses they wish to apply to their Visual Arts major or minor. Courses will not be applied to the student's major or minor unless this step is completed.
